This post is longer than my IG and FB posts, because there is so much Scripture that answers questions about these Old Testament promises and what they mean today. You can find a shorter version on Facebook or on Instagram.

God said that through Abraham, all of the families of the earth would be blessed. The word “bless” is the Hebrew word ba.rakh and it means to bow down in humility.

When the wise men saw Jesus, as recorded in Matthew 2:11, they “fell down, and worshipped him.” In this verse, worship is the Greek word proskuneó, which means to prostrate oneself, to lower oneself in humble adoration or respect.

Philippians 2:10-11 says:
“That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth;”
God sent Jesus to this earth for us so that we would glorify Him, and to kneel, and bow (like ba.rakh, back in Genesis 12). Isn’t it amazing to see how Jesus, God incarnate, was prophesied and promised to Abraham?

Jesus Christ, the seed, was the final heir to all that was promised to Abraham. We see that in the NT genealogies as there is nobody else listed after Jesus. Jesus was THE SEED, the One they were waiting for all along. (Gal 3:16)

When Jesus came, He expanded the territory of the faithful from the small territory given to Abraham, and promised the “whole earth” to the meek in Matthew 5:5.
Also, those who obey Jesus’ words are promised: the kingdom of heaven (twice), comfort, being filled, mercy, seeing God, being called the children of God and a great reward in heaven. (Matthew 5:3-12)
The NT continues with SO many gifts for believers in Christ. The promise ended up being so much better than Abraham could have imagined!
Hebrews 11 mentions a better country than the land of Canaan. This land is achieved through faith in Christ:
“And truly, if they had been mindful of that country from whence they came out, they might have had opportunity to have returned.
But now they desire a better country, that is, an heavenly: wherefore God is not ashamed to be called their God: for he hath prepared for them a city.” (v. 15-16)
