You can download the pdf files at the STAR Store

To Teach Composer:

Play the song that is listed for the week and have your child listen to it quietly. This doesn’t have to be a formal time. If it’s hard to get your child to sit for a song, perhaps play it during a meal time. Ask what instruments your child hears. Start learning the sounds of different instruments together. Talk about how the music makes you feel. Does it sound happy, or sad? Is it loud or soft? Fast or slow? Talk about some music vocabulary every now and then:

  • Melody
  • Harmony
  • Tempo
  • Pitch

To Teach Poets:

Read the poem of the week and try to figure out what it means. Look up a few of the words and talk about them. If you would like to teach your children more about poetry, you may want to look at this Poetry Dictionary online.

To Teach Artist:

Print pictures of the art so that each child can hold at least a post-card size print. Ask the child to look at the picture for a short period of time, and then turn it over. Ask your child what they saw. What colors stood out the most? Overall, what was the picture about? Now, what were some of the details that your child noticed? How does your child think the artist made the picture? What mediums does the child thik the artist used? Now, hang the picture up in a visible spot and come back to it throughout the week.

To Teach Handicraft:

Choose one handicraft per term and really focus on it. Look for books at the library and YouTube videos. I haven’t added links to these things yet, but hope to someday.
