The symbol for this day is an ark and a rainbow. Ours is a frosted white ornament that was painted on one side with an ark, and on the other side with a rainbow. See my site for more ideas.

The reading for Day 3 is Genesis 5-6.

It’s hard to think about the flood that filled the whole earth and killed everyone but Noah and his family, because it’s really, really sad. I wish people’s hearts weren’t so selfish and sinful. I wish they didn’t have to die. But: “the wages of sin is death.” We first see this in Romans 6, but it was the truth all along.
Yet–Christ died for us–while we were still sinners. (Romans 5:8)

Jesus hadn’t walked the earth in Noah’s days, but God was revealing Him all along. We saw that Jesus was a part of creation in Day 1. We saw that Adam and Eve were told about their seed that would crush the head of Satan in Day 2. And now, in Day 3, we see that the names of the people in the genealogy of Noah had meanings that prophesied the coming of Jesus.

We’re only up to Genesis 5, and already, the Bible is showing SO MUCH HOPE for the Savior who was going to come to save the world.

And, just as that ark provided a refuge to Noah and his family during storms, Jesus Christ is our safe place to land. In Matthew 7:24-25, Jesus said:
“Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock:
And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock.”
Noah’s ark provided temporary, earthly salvation from crashing waves. Jesus Christ provides eternal, heavenly salvation from death. Isn’t He amazing?!
