Jesse Tree: Day 2

The symbol for this day is an apple with a snake around it. Ours is a red ornament with a green pipe cleaner glued around it. Scroll below for more ideas!

The reading for Day 2 is Genesis 3.

Did you know that God told Adam and Eve that a Savior was coming, and that He would be their seed? Think of how hopeless that first couple would have felt: they used to walk and talk with the Father in a beautiful garden. They didn’t have any shame, and they had a great relationship with God–until they sinned. Imagine the kind of grief they would have at that moment. God didn’t leave them in their grief though: He presented HOPE that one day, their very seed would crush the head of Satan. There would still be consequences for their sin, but He let them know that He had a plan.

None of us are without sin. Ecclesiastes 7:20 says:

“For there is not a just man upon earth, that doeth good, and sinneth not.”

Without Jesus Christ, we walk in darkness. John 8:12 says:

“Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.”

“If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth:

But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.”

1 John 1:6-7

We need Jesus! There is no fellowship with God apart from Jesus. Just as Adam and Eve’s sin broke their relationship with God, our sin breaks our relationship with God. The only way to restore that relationship is to come to faith in Jesus Christ and to live for Him.

Romans 5:8-11 says:

“But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.
Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him.
For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life.
And not only so, but we also joy in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom we have now received the atonement.”

Joy to the world! We can have fellowship with God because of Jesus! We are no longer enemies of God or walking in darkness, because of Jesus!
