Many people ask me if the school day is only spent reading books? Kind of, yes. I created this silly sticker that I’ve given out at homeschool conferences:

Can you tell that math is not my favorite subject? 😉
An ideal homeschool day will include:
- Reading a lot of books
- Having children narrate what they heard
- Going outside to explore nature
- Dictation: speaking a sentence aloud and having a child write what they heard
- Copywork: having a child copy a complete sentence or paragraph, depending on their ability
- A math lesson or two
- Living life together and learning life skills
- Engaging in some kind of creativity: listen to classical music, practice an instrument, look at great art, make art, read poetry, write poetry, or work on a handicraft
That pretty much sums up a beautiful homeschool day. It doesn’t have to be complicated or overly-busy. Keep it simple and lovely.
