Form 1a includes students who are in grades 2 and up. The following books can be read aloud to the whole family or read independently by a student who is able.

Biblioplan: Remember the Days, History for Junior Readers, Book 1: Ancient Days by Rob and Julia Nalle
Includes World History
Christian Worldview
This is a lovely book with colorful pictures. It is designed like a textbook, but the font is a little bigger and a little more playful, so it doesn’t feel quite as overwhelming as a traditional textbook (but you still get the smooth, full-color pages). I particularly like this volume, because so much of ancient history is really Biblical history. This book puts it in perspective, and doesn’t leave out important pieces of God’s story of these times. You can see a sample of this book on the Biblioplan website here.
This is a great family read aloud for Form 1 and up. There are some additional books recommended for Forms 3 and higher (grades 8 and up). I recommend using those additional books for independent reading for your Form 3+ child, and use this book as a read aloud to the whole family.
This book is scheduled at a pace of one to two chapters per week, since it is a 34-week program and STAR is a 28-week program.

- Rainbow Resources (hardcover)

The Story of the World Volume 1 by Susan Wise Bauer
Includes World History
Lined Up with Memory Work
Many homeschoolers love the Story of the World books. Claritas Publishing memory work lines up nicely with SOTW, as well.
This book is scheduled at a pace of one or two chapters per week from Week 1 through Week 28.
Alternatively, you may choose to read the chapters that line up with the memory work. In this case, there are readings scheduled for twenty-seven out of twenty-eight weeks of the school year.
- Mardel (paperback)
- Exodus Books (paperback)
- Well Trained Mind (hardcover)
- Exodus (Audio CDs)
- Amazon (hardcover, paperback, Kindle, audiobook)
You can download the pdf schedule at the STAR Store.

The Usborne Internet Linked Ancient World
Includes World History
This book is full of colorful illustrations and each page is packed with a lot of information. It is scheduled at a pace of three or four pages per week. This book is out of print and may be difficult to find.
You can download the pdf schedule at the STAR Store.

The Usborne Time Traveler
Includes World History
This is a fun and colorful book, covering ancient history. This book is not scheduled in order, because the book is set up to start at the most recent history first, and move to more ancient history. Cycle 1 begins with ancient history, so I have scheduled this book a little differently than it was originally designed. There are two pages scheduled each week.
You can download the pdf schedule at the STAR Store.
