Homesteaders, wonderful as they are, are a different kind of folk. 😉 While most of the world is wishing for new technology and bling this Christmas, homesteaders are looking for something different. Remember this post, Money and Possessions Don’t Feed You? Homesteaders “get it.” If you love a homesteader and you don’t know what to get them for Christmas, this post just might help you. If you are a homesteader, this post might make you covet things you don’t yet own. 😉
This is a Blend-Tec, both reasonably priced and well-reviewed. I don’t know a homesteader who doesn’t want (or already own) a grain mill!
The Executioner Fly Swat Wasp Bug Mosquito Swatter Zapper
Who knew that a fly swatter would have over 800 reviews?! Seriously, my hubby bought me one of these when we lived on the farm and it was SO nice. (Much better than smashing fly guts all over the white ceiling…ahem…).
If you’re growing a nut tree or you’re getting them from a local farm, eventually you will need one of these.
These are perfect for making homemade sauerkraut, pickles and other fermented veggies.
We had an ash bucket next to our fireplace at the farm. It’s a necessity, why not have a pretty one!?
Very handy tool! Though, if there are very young children in this home, I recommend keeping this in a hidden place.
Sometimes when you live on a homestead, the power is more prone to going out. This kind of lamp is very handy.
Boot Scraper
Yes! A boot scraper is essential by the door. This one is lovely and would make a great addition to any homestead.
Wire Egg Basket
This is a practical, pretty, fun tool. Nothing makes you feel more like a homesteader than walking in with your home-grown eggs in a cute little egg basket.
Stainless-Steel Juicer Steamer
I LOVE this kind of juice steamer. This is great for any kind of fruit. It is the easiest way I have found to juice fruit and can it for future use.
Cast-Iron Reversible Grill/Griddle
We own this griddle and this is what we use for making pancakes, bacon, etc. It fits over two burners nicely and heats evenly. It’s made by Lodge, which is a great company for cast iron pots and pans.
We own this meat grinder as well. When you’ve got a farm, you need a tool like this. I especially like it for working with lard and tallow. There are much more expensive meat grinders out there, but this one works well and isn’t too pricey.
Basic Butchering of Livestock & Game
Before we moved to the farm, I had a bunch of homesteading books that really only scratched the surface. When you’re a real homesteader and you are in the thick of things, you need a book like this that really teaches the skills you need.
Are you a homesteader? What would you add to this list?
