Real Food Breakfast Recipes for Camping

It’s camping season! Don’t you just want to pull out those tiny overpriced boxed cereals that oddly double as a bowl, so you don’t have to cookΒ orΒ do the dishes? And you want to eat big fat chocolate muffins and store-bought bagels (made from dead, rancid grains), right? Oh, you don’t!? Alright then, you might just want some real food camping recipes!

Prep-Ahead Breakfasts

Muffins

You could make some muffins to bring on your trip. I’ve got several to choose from on this site:

Coffee Cake

You could make my Blueberry Banana Coffee Cake ahead of time. It’s really good, and moist. Or, my Apple Butter Coconut Flour Coffee Cake which is a little bit more expensive to make (because you have to buy Apple Butter), but it is oh-so-good.

Breakfast Sausages

chicken apple sausage patties

I love, love, love my recipe for Chicken Apple Breakfast Sausages. It’s a flexible recipe and you can make these sausages with pork or turkey as well. You could make these ahead of time and shape them into patties and freeze them. Then, fry them up in a skillet when you are camping. Obviously, there are also pre-made sausages that do not need to be prepped in advance. Just make sure they don’t contain any garbage-ingredients and that the meat was well-raised and well-fed!

Yogurt

You can make your own yogurt, which is the healthiest option, or buy an organic, plain, full-fat yogurt to dress up with your own natural sweeteners. Low-fat yogurts contain chemicals made from corn, and non-fat dry milk powder (which is oxidized cholesterol) and they usually contain a lot of sugar. If you want a honey-sweetened yogurt, try my favorite Orange Yogurt Recipe.

Granola

You can make your own granola to serve alone, on top of yogurt, or with milk in a bowl (to replace those tiny boxed cereals). Try my Cranberry Apple Granola for a grain-free, nut-free, honey sweetened version.

Applesauce

You can buy organic applesauce, or make your own, which is a better-tasting, cheaper, more nutrient-dense option. You can make Crockpot Applesauce before you go and pack it in your cooler in glass jars.

Breakfasts to Cook on a Griddle or in a Skillet

Bacon

You can purchase some uncured bacon and make my Salted Rosemary Side Pork.

Cooked Fruits or Veggies

I love this recipe for Squash and Apples for Breakfast. You could cut the squash up ahead of time and have it ready to dump in the skillet. These Cooked Bananas and Apples are tasty alone or over a bowl of yogurt, too.

Pancakes

pumpkinpancakes

I almost considered putting pancakes in the next category, because, really, they’re a little bit fancy for a camping trip. But some people might think that they are a camping staple. So, decide which category they fit in for you. πŸ™‚ You can try my Pumpkin Pancakes with Honey Cinnamon Syrup. These Banana Pancakes are super easy to make and contain very simple ingredients.

Skillet Egg Dishes

You can make fried eggs (We have “Fried Egg Fridays” around here), or scrambled eggs with any combination of vegetables you can find locally and in season. For a meaty egg skillet dish, try my Taco/Pizza Eggs.

Breakfast Ideas for the Fancy Camper πŸ™‚

French Toast

There are lots of different French Toast recipes out there. If you want to get really fancy (and TASTY!), try my Banana French Toast recipe.

Ok, so I can’t think of other fancy breakfasts to make without an oven. Maybe stuffed French Toast? Aebleskivers? Crepes? Those would be fancy breakfasts!

Fruit and Veggies

Dried fruits are easy to pack, or maybe even a homemade trail mix of dried fruits, nuts and coconut shreds.

And please, please, don’t forget raw, fresh fruit and vegetables! Stop by the farmer’s market on the way to your trip and buy berries, tomatoes, zucchini, and more!

What do you like to eat for breakfast when you go camping?
