I know you all love my poop posts. I want to talk about this, because I think this is a big deal. A lot of people are suffering from diarrhea, or constipation (which is also not normal). Going out to eat, going to people’s houses, going to the mall, going camping–it’s uncomfortable. You never know when you’re going to have “issues.” You begin to hate public restroom toilet paper (you know what I’m talking about, right?) and you consider carrying a roll of squishy, soft Charmin with you everywhere you go (or maybe you already do?).
Have y’all heard of the Bristol Stool Chart? Please look at it and determine which type of stool you typically have. Types 3 & 4 are ideal–you should not have pain, or runny stools, or stools that are next to impossible to excrete.
Chronic loose stools often means that your body is not digesting fats or proteins–they are going straight to your feces. This doesn’t mean (as many people would say) that you should stop eating fats and proteins. That’s ridiculous. Your body needs fats and proteins to function properly. It’s unfortunate that your body doesn’t know what to do with fats & proteins, but you should not eliminate them from your diet, you should support your body’s need. So, first things first, remove the foods that irritate your gut and that might be causing the lack of absorption of proteins and fats:
- Refined SUGAR
- Grains
- Starches
- Lactose
I am not a doctor, but there are enough doctors talking about this that I believe it’s TRUE. Not only that, but I have seen that it is true in my own life. I was not diagnosed with IBS, but when I read the symptoms, I know that’s what I had. I have been on The GAPS Diet for a year and a half now, and my digestive problems are GONE when I avoid the above foods. I live diarrhea-free, constipation-free, and I have far more energy than I remember ever having in my life.
Your stools are a sign of how healthy you are. How healthy you allow yourself to stay determines your future health. Want cancer? Other serious diseases? Many years of living with that diarrhea (while underlying conditions occur in the body) will lead to extremely poor health. I see diarrhea as a big warning signal that something is wrong. IBS meds will put a band-aid on the issue but won’t solve it. The GAPS Diet solves it.
The GAPS Diet works for IBS, Crohn’s, etc. I believe that The GAPS Diet
is THE diet for digestive disorders, autoimmune diseases and mental illnesses (Pretty much, I think that most of America should be on The GAPS Diet
!). 🙂
how long did you have diahrea for while on gaps?
Hi Millmouse23, thanks for the question! I think it went away by the first month or so on GAPS.
My diarrhea started over 3 years ago after taking a Z-pack. I’ve tried lots of things. I’m trying the GAPS diet now. Do you have any info or suggestions about antibiotics and chronic diarrhea related to this diet. Any information would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!
My hubby has been tentatively diagnosed with IBS. He always has some sort of GI symptom. I feel terrible for him, he is so uncomfy and tired all the time. Unfortunately I think he has partially given up and decided that that is just how he is. I keep telling him that his symptoms are NOT NORMAL, it is not normal or ok to live with GI symptoms every.single.day. I’d like to get him to try the GAPS diet as I have heard good things about it healing IBS, but I think such a BIG change would be almost impossible to convince him…. would it be terribly devious of me to say that the diet is for me and that I need the support of him following it with me 😛
Good Evening,
I am doing introduction diet and following the guidelines from Dr. McBride’s book. I have IBS. It’s been close to 3 weeks now but the Diarrhea that I developed after starting the diet from day 1st is not going away. It’s not cramps or having too many bowel movements but when I go it comes out watery. I took out veggies from my soup more than 10 days ago.
I am only taking soups without veggie, sauerkraut juice , veggie medley juice , whey, sour cream and now started yogurt, meet balls sauted in ghee, egg yolks, scramble eggs, and around meat cooked(fried) in ghee. My wife cooks And make everything at home. She uses only sea salt, black pepper, garlic, and ginger root in things.
I want to move to bread made from backed almond flour and coconut flour but hesitant due to the advice by Dr. McBride that don’t go to the next stage unless diarrhea goes away. I realize that even egg yolks are in stage 3.
Is it normal to have Diarrhea that far? I did not have that before the diet. What could be the reason? Is it inflammation in my guts or it is die off but again how long a die off could be? Need opinion please, thanks!
