Jesse Tree: Day 1

Our symbol for this day is a globe. I painted a clear ornament light blue and then painted imperfect splotches of green land on the earth. See my blog for more ideas.

The reading for Day 1 is Genesis 1-2.

Most people who have at least a little bit of Bible knowledge can sort of quote Genesis 1:1:

“In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.”

One thing that sets Christians apart, though, is that we know that Jesus Christ was there from the start. Since Jesus Christ was God incarnate, who walked upon the earth as a man–but was fully God–we know that He has always been.

The teens at STAR Homeschool Community read through Josh McDowell’s “More Than a Carpenter” a couple of years ago. In that book, McDowell pointed out that Jesus was either the LORD, a Liar, or a Lunatic.

Throughout Jesus’ life, He said things that proved He was God.

“Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I am.” (John 8:58)

He was referring to what God said to Moses in Exodus 3:

“And God said unto Moses, I Am That I Am: and he said, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, I Am hath sent me unto you.”

In John 10:30, Jesus said that He and the Father were one.

Those very words are what made the Jewish religious leaders so angry with Jesus, and what led to His eventual crucifixion.

In Matthew 8:59, they picked up stones to throw them at Jesus after that, because they knew He was calling Himself God.

John 5:18 says:

“Therefore the Jews sought the more to kill him, because he not only had broken the sabbath, but said also that God was his Father, making himself equal with God.”

Again in John 10:33, stones were in hand, and the reason explained was this:

“The Jews answered him, saying, For a good work we stone thee not; but for blasphemy; and because that thou, being a man, makest thyself God.”

Jesus wouldn’t have been treated like that if He was only a “good teacher” or a “prophet,” as many religions believe. Knowing Who He Is, and that He was there from the beginning, is a super important piece of being a believer.

Today, lets worship Jesus for BEING God, and also for being there since before the creation of the world!
