Form II
Builders of Our Country Book 1 by Gertrude van Duyn Southworth
and
Builders of Our Country Book 2 by Gertrude van Duyn Southworth
These books are each read over half of the year, so that if you read both books, you will cover a full year’s worth of reading. There are two chapters scheduled each week, and the chapters vary in length–between four and eighteen pages. Each chapter is a biography of a person who actually lived and breathed in history and played a part in the building of America. Some of the biographies in Book 1 are about people who lived before our Cycle 3, 1550-1850 timeline. Likewise, some of the biographies in Book 2 are about people who lived and did things after 1850. For reading that is lined up to the memory work, there is reading scheduled for Book 1 in week 12 and for Book 2 in weeks 19 and 21. Samples can be seen on the Yesterday’s Classics website.

Four Great Americans by James Baldwin
This book contains stories about four famous men: George Washington, Benjamin Franklin, Daniel Webster and Abraham Lincoln. We will technically study Abraham Lincoln in Cycle 4, but it doesn’t hurt to read ahead a bit! There are two chapters scheduled each week for the entire year, and each chapter is two to four pages in length. A sample can be seen on the Yesterday’s Classics website.
