History Form III

Form III includes students who are ages 12 to 14. The following books can be read aloud to the whole family or read independently by a student who is able.

The Awakening of Europe by M.B. Synge

Includes World History

Chapters 1 through 26 are read in Cycle 2, and then the rest of the book is covered in Cycle 3., The chapters are each about five pages in length. A sample can be found on the Yesterday’s Classics website.

A Book of Discovery by M.B. Synge

This book is scheduled at a pace of three chapters per week from Week 1 through Week 25.

Alternatively, you may choose to read the chapters that line up with the memory work. In this case, there are readings scheduled for eleven out of twenty-eight weeks of the school year.

The Discovery of New Worlds by M.B. Synge

Includes World History

This book contains literary style writing with interesting stories.

This book is scheduled at a pace of two or three chapters per week from Week 1 through Week 28. 

Alternatively, you may choose to read the chapters that line up with the memory work. In this case, there are readings scheduled for twelve out of twenty-eight weeks of the school year.

A History of England by H.O. Arnold-Foster

Includes World History

This thick book is first scheduled in Cycle 2, and continued in Cycle 3, at a pace of one to two chapters per week, throughout the entire school year. Chapters are around ten to fourteen pages in length. Cycle 3 begins with chapter XL, which is about Edward VI, and ends with the final chapter, which is about Queen Victoria’s last years.
