Cycle 4 Apologetics Forms 1, 2 & 3

Besides Bible, Apologetics is the most important subject we study.

Form 1+ (or whole family read aloud)

Wonder full Ancient Psalms Ever New by Marty Machowski

This is the first book that we read aloud during Cycle 3 to Form 1, 2 and 3 students at STAR Homeschool Community throughout the school year. This book is read beginning in Week 1 and ending in Week 22.

Note that the “At Home” readings do not include the entire book, because some of the lessons are read in community.

If you would like to read through the whole book, read one extra lesson per week.

God’s Names by Sally Michael

This is the second book read aloud at STAR Homeschool Community in Cycle 4. It is read from Week 23 through Week 28. The portions included on the schedule are “At Home” readings. If you are not attending a community, add one extra lesson per week to your “At Home” reading.

You can download the pdf of the readings done in community in Wonder Full and God’s Names here:

You can download the pdf of the readings done at home in Wonder Full and God’s Names here:

God’s Promises by Sally Michael

This book is scheduled at a pace of one lesson per week for twenty-six weeks.

You can download the pdf here:

Big Truths for Little Kids by Susan Hung & Richie Hunt

This book is scheduled at a pace of one or two lessons per week.

You can download the pdf here:

Form 2+ (or whole family read aloud)

Training Hearts, Teaching Minds: Family Devotions Based on the Shorter Catechism by Starr Meade (year 4 of 4)

This book is scheduled over all four cycles and finishes up in Cycle 4, in Week 23. You can really jump in to this book at any time. Each week is focused on of of the Shorter Catechism questions. There are readings each day of the week that go along with the questions.

This is a great read aloud for Form 2 and up.

I am a big fan of using music for memory work (see the Bible Memory project on this site!), and I recommend using some music to memorize these catechism questions. Try Holly Dutton’s work, Brian Sauve’s albums, or Colin Buchanan’s album Catechism Kids.

You can download the pdf here:

Missionary Stories and the Millers by Mildred A. Martin

This book is scheduled at a pace of one chapter per week from Week 1 through Week 27 and then two chapters in Week 28. This is a great read aloud for the whole family, but possibly most interesting for Form 2 and up.

You can download the pdf here:

Form 3+ (or whole family read aloud)

Who is God and Can I Really Know Him? by John Hay and David Webb (year 2 of 2)

This book is scheduled over two years: Cycle 3 and Cycle 4.

This can be used as a whole-family read aloud for Forms 2 and up, or it can be used for independent reading assignments for Forms 3, 4 or 5.

Cycle 4 Form 5+ Bible

Cycle 4 Bible

Saviour of the World Volume V by Charlotte Mason

Saviour of the World Volume VI by Charlotte Mason

Saviour of the World Volume VII by Charlotte Mason

These books are such a fabulous resource! Charlotte Mason herself wrote seven volumes of poetry about God’s Holy Word! I recommend that students read these poetry and then also find and read the Scripture passage that the poem references.

These books are scheduled at a pace of one or two chapters per week for all twenty eight weeks. This series is read over the course of the six years students will spend in Forms 4 and 5. Form 4 readings are repeated (Cycle 1 and 3 are the same and Cycle 2 and 4 are the same) because a student will only spend two years in Form 4 (seventh and eighth grades). Then, the Form 5 readings move on from there, with Cycle 1 beginning with Volume III and Cycle 4 ending with Volume VII (students will start with chapter LVIII of Volume V in this cycle, and finish it off and then they will also get through all of Volume VI and Volume VII in this cycle). There is no harm in jumping in to whatever volume is scheduled for the year, even if a student did not read the previous volume.
